Today, one of the most venerated science fiction writers of all time, Ray Bradbury, turns 90 years old. He’s one of the more prolific science fiction writers dividing his time between novels, short stories, and screenplays. As such, his bibliography is absolutely huge. Some of his works are semi-autobiographical, some complete fantasy, and others have become classics, such as Fahrenheit 451 (which is not only a fantastic novel, but one I taught the year I was a middle school English instructor).
As the icing on the cake, he’s also known as a warm and funny guy, a regular at conventions who used to hang out in the bar and chat with fans and aspiring writers and offer encouragement and advice. He’s still active, having held a panel discussion at Comic Con International this July in San Diego, California.
Happy Birthday Mr. Bradbury!
PS—if you haven’t already watched the amusing and NSFW tribute song and video written by Rachel Bloom below, as long as you appreciate tongue-in-cheek humor with a naughty/vulgar edge you’ll love it. Today, a friend of Mr. Bradbury reported that Mr. Bradbury has in fact seen it twice, and he loved it.
Happy Birthday Mr. Bradbury!! A true living legend–here’s to many more good years! His writings have definitely given me many hours of entertainment.
