I didn’t watch the Academy Awards tonight, but thanks to Twitter, I’ve learned that Trent Reznor won an Oscar for Best Original Score for The Social Network. I haven’t seen the movie, but I bought the score as soon as it came out, and greatly enjoy it. Some tracks are still on my playlist, months later.
I’ve not listened to all the nominated scores, so I wouldn’t presume to give an opinion over if I think Trent and Atticus created an objectively “better” score than the other nominees.
But I will say that Trent Reznor has been a musical icon and inspiration to me for most of my adult life, and I’m thrilled that he’s earned mainstream recognition for one of his works. Congratulations to a truly unique talent and I wish him continued success and awards in all his endeavors.
